Youth Outreach

The Challenge

Music Education

Music education is now fast becoming a privilege. Music as a core curriculum subject is being lost. Financial, timetable and skills shortages in schools at all levels have reduced the opportunity for children of all ages to gain some level of formal music education.

There has been many studies in the benefits of formal music education. It enhances language skills, IQ, fosters self-expression and social connections. Musicians' brains have been shown to exhibit increased neural activity, benefiting cognition and overall brain functionality.

Lenthall Concerts

Values

The Lenthall Concert Society recognises these challenges in musical education. One key core  object written into our constitution is "THE ARRANGING OF WORKSHOPS AND MASTER CLASSES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE"

The Committee and Trustees recognise in order that we have new players and future audiences, societies like ourselves need to engage with young people to generate enthusiasm and desires to play an instrument or appreciate music. Artists we engage all have similar aims and see that outreach to young people is vital to enhance a musical education.

Youth Outreach

Current activities and beyond

Currently Lenthall Concerts organises workshops with visiting artists and students at Burford School. The outcome is a short piece played by these students at our concert. It is always enthusiastically welcomed by audiences, parents and students.

In future, in 2024 and beyond, our aim is to reach out to other schools locally to benefit from our visiting artists, and to foster broader musical connection. The workshops will be organised with the artists being involved in the planning and being properly compensated.

We believe these activities will encourage future players, both amateur and professional, together with creating audiences of the future.

We seek donations to help on this activity and broaden our reach. Please contact us below to discuss how you can help.
