About Us
Lenthall Concerts has been bringing outstanding music to West Oxfordshire since 1992.
Lenthall Concerts was founded over 30 years ago by Michael Bochmann MBE. Michael was a pupil at Burford School and subsequently went to the Royal Academy of Music, London, to study the violin. Since the early 1970s, he has made a significant contribution to the world of classical music through performances, media and education. He made his first broadcasts for the BBC at the age of 19 and numerous recordings thereafter. In recognition of his services to music, he was awarded an MBE in the 2015 Queen’s Birthday honours list.
Since its founding the Lenthall Concert series has become part of the cultural and social fabric of Burford, promoting 6 concerts a year, drawn from international and varied artists. Aside from the Concerts, the society aims to reach out to younger people, to educate and enlighten them on the enjoyment of classical music. Our performers generally deliver workshops to students at Burford School before the concerts, and in some cases become part of the concert.
Fundraising
Donation and Sponsorship
We welcome any donation or sponsorship to assist in the running of the series. 80% of our income pays for our artists, the balance being the cost to market and stage the events. Our aim is to build a varied and interesting series of concerts each year. We are registered by HMRC to recover tax from any donation.
