Christmas Strings
In this festive concert, works of baroque masters Corelli and Torelli perfectly encapsulate the Christmas spirit. Vivaldi's Double Violin Concerto showcases mesmerising violin interplays. Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 2 lends the program an air of classical sophistication, while Sarasate's vibrant 'Navarra' offers a Spanish twist. The program culminates in a joyful, whirlwind ride with Anderson's popular 'Sleigh Ride'. This well-curated blend of styles and moods invites a journey through time, celebrating the season's joy and the profound beauty of violin music.

Artists

Orchestra Pro Anima
Orchestra Pro Anima (OPA), directed by Michael Bochmann, was launched in January 2017 and is formed of musicians who have performed together over a long period as members of the English String Orchestra. So, although OPA is new in name and status as an independent body, the players have a real affinity with one another, forged over time. They will generally play without a conductor, Michael being the director, and with the pieces being introduced by various players. This allows for spontaneity and creates a relaxed atmosphere and a feeling of oneness with the audience. Indeed, there is a strong emphasis on communication, whereby the audience feels part of the music-making experience. The orchestra name pro anima means ‘for the soul’, reflecting the desired impact of the music on the listener.
The Venue
All the 2023-24 concerts take place at Burford School, the venue provides an intimate, welcoming atmosphere, unusual at concerts of this calibre. Tea, coffee and drinks are served in the interval and there is plenty of parking available.
